Research

The Historical Electronics Museum has several sources of materials for research on defense electronics with new sources being developed. Most items can be viewed on request. Because of its small staff size please allow HEM 30 days to process research request.

The library contains over 10,000 volumes. Most can be searched via author, title, and subject. HEM is expecting a searchable electronic database to be available to the public in 2006.

The archival collection consists of a large collection of journals, magazines, technical manuals, and ephemera. In most cases ephemera and manuals are sorted by subject only.

Consisting of approximately 300 titles, DVD and VHS tapes are arranged by title and subject. HEM has approximately 500 films, one third can be searched by subject. Because of their age and rarity, HEM requires a digital copy be made prior to viewing. The photographic collection consists of approximately 2,000 images, in most cases, arranged by subject matter.

The Historical Electronic Museum has a collection of catalogued and uncatalogued original artwork and prints. With a subject matter centered on weapon and electronic systems, HEM’s collection of artwork presents a unique perspective on the development and deployment of late Twentieth Century defense electronics.

The Historical Electronics Museum currently has approximately 20,000 artifacts in its holdings. These range in size and complexity from a 90 mm AA gun to silicon chips. HEM has a collections database searchable by museum staff. HEM is expecting a searchable electronic database to be available to the public in 2006.

A limited number of oral histories are available. Most are on VHS and are not transcribed.
