Ever since man developed the shield to counter the sword, countermeasures   have been a key part of warfare. Countermeasures follow the introduction of a new weapon or tactic, creating a cycle of a hostile move followed by counter move. With Germany's use of radar and radio during the early battles of World War II the Allies developed a new type of countermeasure - what we now know as Electronic Countermeasures (ECM).

Following the introduction of a hostile weapon, only a short time is allowed to design, develop, test, and deploy the countermeasure, because during this time the lives of our war fighters are at risk. To the credit of our ECM engineers this time has been kept to a minimum. Today, as hostile encounters become more sophisticated, integrated and complex new countermeasures are developed. The Countermeasures Gallery presents an overview of evolution of ECM from the early days of WWII to the present.
